Introduction K-Scan MMD is a new generation handheld laser scanners for portable metrology applications. Accurate, easy-to-use and a stunning performance make it the most modern handheld scanning solution without mechanical constraints. K-Scan MMD is the ultimate tool for accurate part-to-CAD inspection and productive reverse engineering, combining the accuracy and productivity of Metris' MMD laser scanner, measurement volume and motion compensation of the K-Series Optical CMM.
"Measures at the speed of light" Applications Thanks to the mobility and the measurement envelope, K-Scan can be used in a wide range of scanning applications.
Concept The K-series is used as a localizer to determine where the user holds the handheld scanner. The K-series is an optical triangulation system where 3 high resolution cameras measure IR optical targets that are mounted on the hand tool. The hand tool can serve as a simple probed inspection device. When the hand tool is combined with the MMD laser scanner, it picks up to 70.000 points per second on the surface of the part creating a very dense 3D point cloud of the part. Software enables to use that information for inspection or reverse engineering.
"Portability and performance combined" Features
Software The system uses the powerful KUBE software for easy point cloud acquisition. It has integrated high quality meshing, filtering capabilities and cad compare functionality. Data output can be point cloud (ascii), stl mesh or iges features. The output is compatible with specialized packages such as Focus Inspection and Focus RE or other third party software.
